Abseiling a 40 storey building to clean is a challenge MB Property Services faces every other day. However, owner Moe Brown has struggled to find the right water blaster…until now. He reveals how crucial AES Waterblasters has been to his business – helping to custom build and repair equipment he already owned.
Moe Brown and his team at MB Property Services scale some of the country’s tallest high rises to water blast, run repairs, paint and clean windows. Building maintenance up in the air sometimes involves being barked at by inquisitive high rise toy poodles or being delivered fresh baked goods for smoko from the balcony of a nice apartment owner.
“It doesn’t happen often but it always brings a smile to the boys faces,” says Moe.
But, most of the time, working as a ‘height technician’ is serious business.
Water blasting that high up is a challenge. For a start, where do you put the unit? On site, they either sit on the ground, on the roof or they’re brought in through an access hatch. The units can’t be heavy or bulky.
The water blasters Moe has used since MB Property Services started in 2019 were bought in a specialty hardware store. They had limitations and Moe needed them to be customised in order to handle his unique working conditions. The problem was that suppliers only wanted to sell him what they had on their shelves.
“I knew who AES Waterblasters were, I’d seen their stickers on blasters,” he says.
When Moe approached them, AES understood his issues straight away. “I walked in there and said, hey, I want this and I want it in this size. And they were able to actually weld it all together,” says Moe.
“Sometimes you just need a solution and you need to get it to the boys as quickly as possible,” he says. The water blasters, and he has six now, are critical to ongoing work for MB Property Services. Maintaining and keeping them in tip top condition is even more important.
What AES Waterblasters has done for MB Property Services is create a water blaster that fits unique specifications using mostly parts the company already had. That’s a savings win, because Moe hasn’t had to go out and buy a whole new unit.
You see, what many people don’t realise is AES Waterblasters can customise and repair any brand of pump.
The custom built water blaster MB Property Services now uses is narrower, so it can fit through access hatches easily. And the unit is lighter, so it’s much easier to carry around the job site, says Moe. But crucially, all the changes haven’t affected the pressure.
“Everything is running beautifully and the guys have really noticed it. They’ve said these pumps that we’ve had made are way easier to handle,” he says.
Removing any potentially dangerous situations with equipment handled by his team of four is always top of mind for Moe. “If you’re carrying tools, you gotta make sure all of them are tethered. And you sometimes never know what you’re going to come across when you’re halfway down the building,” he says.
The new customised water blaster setup helps alleviate any concerns and fits with strict health and safety standards on site.
His great experience with AES didn’t stop there. Moe asked AES Waterblasters General Manager, Chris Wilmoth and his team if there was anything they could do with some split and frayed hoses they already owned. No problem. “They’ve been able to fix our equipment and it’s a fast turnaround too,” he says.
So, while Moe deals with weather delays, new business calls and ensuring health and safety on site, he’s developed a valuable partnership with AES Waterblasters. “With AES, they ask us what we want. And they say if they don’t have it, they’ll go and order it,” says Moe. “They’re honest with us.” “That’s the most important thing because we don’t have time to run around and revisit the machine three or even six months later just because we didn’t get the right part we wanted.”
